No matter the age, child nutrition is extremely important. Children need to receive proper nutrition to be healthy and to aid in good brain development. According to the site University of Michigan: Michigan Medicine, Children who lack proper nutrition have a higher probability for developing permanent problems such as:

· Osteoporosis as an adult

· Cardiovascular Disease

· High Cholesterol

· High Blood Pressure

· Atherosclerosis as an adult

· Type 2 Diabetes

· Breathing problems

· Live problems

· Hip development problems

· Problems with bone grown in legs

· Gallstones

· Early puberty

· Polycystic ovary syndrome

· Developmental problems

· Behavioral and mental health problems

· And more

However, there are many global issues standing in the way of every child receiving the good nutrition they deserve. The World Health Organization (WHO) lists the follow as the four main reasons for child malnutrition.

· Socioeconomic conditions

· Poor Maternal health and nutrition

· Frequent illness

· Inappropriate infant and young child feeding and care in early life

While there are specific reasons why a child might not receive the proper nutrition they need, the WHO states, “Every country in the world is affected by one or more forms of malnutrition. Combating malnutrition in all its forms is one of the greatest global health challenges.”

In this blog, I would like to educate my readers on the global issue of child nutrition in different areas of the world, explain the issues causing poor child nutrition, and inform readers about ways we can help combat child malnutrition. I also intend to throw in a few lighter pieces of nutrition content!
